Many literary journals are about to open back up for submissions after their summer breaks, so now is the perfect time for a submission tune-up! For writers who are new to the submission process, or more experienced writers who want to learn how to improve their odds of acceptance– this class will teach you all the basics of submitting your fiction, creative nonfiction, and poetry to literary journals. You’ll learn all the submission vocabulary, how to find the right journals for your work, who is opening up for submissions soon, how to use both Submittable and Duotrope, how to write a cover letter, how far to cast your submission net, and how to connect with other writers (and editors!) in the literary community to help you learn and grow as a writer. We’ll also discuss upcoming contests and chapbook deadlines, as well as open up the floor for any questions you might have about submitting your work! This class will focus on literary journals, but I am available to answer questions related to freelance publishing and agents during the Q&A.
