This workshop is ideal for writers of any genre who are looking to get back into writing. We will read and react to selections from Natalie Goldberg’s Writing Down the Bones. There will be generative writing exercises that we will return to, creating poems, memoir, and/or short fiction drafts.

About Abdul Ali
Abdul Ali is a poet, teacher, and nonprofit consultant. He is the author of Trouble Sleeping, his debut collection of poems that won the 2014 New Issues Poetry Book Prize and is the current Editor-at-Large of Pleiades. He has published his poems in numerous journals and publications including Copper Nickel, Plume, and Transition. He has taught writing at MICA, Johns Hopkins University, and Howard University. Teaching Style: My approach to writing workshops is very interactive. I aim to create a safe environment for poets to take creative risks and stretch themselves. We will discuss exemplary poems and create our own based on prompts. I also will have short 1-on-1 sessions with participants throughout our time together.
