The building blocks of any short story, novel, memoir, or work of creative nonfiction are scenes. Each one has its own beginning, middle, and end and moves readers another step toward resolution. Elements discussed in this fast-paced, half-day class will include Perspective, Setting, Emotion, Action, Dialogue, and Exposition—as well as the most effective types of scene openings and endings. Participants who master the skills of scene building will gain confidence in their craft and learn how to avoid creating weak story segments that can result in bland and uninspiring stories.
