About Emily Holland

Emily Holland (she/they) is a genderqueer lesbian writer. Their poems appear in publications including HAD, Shenandoah, Black Warrior Review, and the chapbook Lineage. They are the recipient of multiple fellowships from DC Commision on the Arts and Humanities. She is the editor of Poet Lore, the chair of OutWrite, and an adjunct instructor at GWU.

Teaching style: Emily’s courses are designed to push poets to their full potential by exposing students to a diverse pool of writers and poetic styles. She values a generative and collaborative atmosphere, and urges students to experiment and lean into their obsessions in their work. Rather than “fixing,” constructive feedback centers on highlighting the strengths of one’s work, and in doing so, they help students reach towards accomplishing the goals they set for their drafts.
