Workshop and edit those flash fiction stories sitting around on your computer!
If you have some drafts of flash fiction rattling around your hard drive, this is an opportunity to get more eyes on them before you send them out into the world, and give feedback to your classmates in return. Each participant will have the opportunity to workshop up to three stories (max. 1,000 words per story) over the four-week course, so you should have at least two flash fiction stories already drafted to get the most out of the course. Although feedback for revision purposes is the focus, prompts to inspire new work will also be provided. Revision strategies and potential markets for publication will also be offered.
Learn at your own pace: This workshop will take place over Wet Ink, which is an asynchronous creative writing platform. The instructor will post a lesson and assignment at the beginning of each week, and participants can log in and read the lessons/post assignments/comment on other classmates’ work at their convenience. Shortly before the start date, participants will receive an invite from Wet Ink to create their login info and access the class. Please check your spam if you don’t see it.
In this workshop you’ll learn:
- We’ll start with a review of the techniques of flash
- You’ll practice effective written feedback techniques
- Revision strategies & submission opportunities will be provided
Time requirements
- Required: reading and providing feedback on 2-3 of your classmates’ stories
- Optional: reading and discussing one published flash per week and writing a story based on a prompt inspired by the story (you might find that you use one of these new stories for a submission if you don’t already have three flash drafts ready to go)
Materials
- All reading materials will be provided.
Who should take this workshop?
- This is for people who have been writing flash fiction but don’t have enough beta readers to get them past the draft stage.
