Learn how to pack a powerful punch when writing persuasively. This six-week workshop teaches you the processes involved in crafting mainly op-eds and prepared speeches: Think. Plan. Write. Participants will learn the techniques of audience analysis, message development, targeted research,and effective use of social media. The workshop also covers the application of persuasive writing principles in creating lower-profile writing formats, such as memos, letters, and emails. There will be hands-on writing exercises, engaging discussions, a reading list, and a blog.
Live video conference: This workshop will be held via our online video conferencing platform, Zoom. You can view brief tutorials on using the platform here. On the start date or the day before, participants will receive an email with login info (please check your spam if you don’t see it).
In this workshop you’ll learn:
- How to identify and develop a core message
- How to think and plan before writing
- How to research persuasively
- Learn the techniques for speech writing vs. op-ed writing
- How to structure and present a professional opinion piece
- How to have your final piece properly reviewed and edited
Time requirements
- Participants should expect to spend about 2 hours weekly on outside work.
