Polish those public speaking skills and dazzle at your next event!
An estimated 75% of the public admit being afraid of speaking in public. But for writers, participating in public readings is not only one of the best ways to get your work out there, it’s also a wonderful way to meet other writers and become more involved in your literary community. In this workshop, you’ll learn some tips and techniques from MoCo Underground Writers Showcase founder Julia Tagliere that will help you prepare your work–and your confidence!–for your next literary event.
In-person class: This workshop will take place at 4508 Walsh St, Bethesda MD.
In this workshop you’ll learn:
- selecting and trimming the right piece/excerpt for your event
- general public speaking tips, from appearance to eye contact
- dramatic and comedic vocal techniques
- the art of the intentional pause
- organizations that provide opportunities to read your work in front of live audiences
Time requirements
- The first session requires no advance preparation.The second session of the workshop will require an estimated 1-2 hours of independent script preparation and independent practice for a live reading for fellow classmates and instructor during the second session.

- This workshop is for writers of all levels who are just starting to participate in public readings or who would like to sharpen their existing skills.
