The Great World of Days springs to life in the voices of fifty-six poets arranged into a single chorus by editors Gregory Luce, Anne Becker, and Jeffrey Banks. The book documents births, breakups, deaths, abuse, healing, sex, sexuality, and more.
Poems included in the book were first published in the magazine Bourgeon, a project of Day Eight founded in 2005 by Robert Bettmann. Primarily a platform for artists writing about their work, the magazine is also an outlet for poets, now under the leadership of literary editors Gregory Luce, Anne Becker, and Jeffrey Banks.
“I am continually amazed at the excellent poetry Day Eight has produced; and now we have The Best of the Best in The Great World of Days—poems compiled from poets who have passed through the Bourgeon portal. Every human story is here—the wry, the sorrowful, the wondrous, the exalted, the humorous. I have not read better poetry anywhere; and if you have this anthology, you’ll have everything you need for each season of your life. You can keep it at your bedside and always find something new to love.” —Grace Cavalieri, Maryland Poet Laureate
