Deepen your understanding of the short story!
Through careful reading and guided discussion we will explore each participant piece for its secret aims, visible strengths, and needed areas of development. We will talk about the role of feedback in a writer’s process, and how reading for each other sharpens our skills. This five week class will further your understanding of key craft elements, and help you see how your own work is coming across to a group of readers so that you can go forth armed with new ideas, skills, and hope. Instructor will discuss point of view, character presentation, story development, tension, and form, but the bulk of the content will arise from the particulars of each participant’s work. This workshop will best suit people with previous workshop experience. Participants should expect to spend 2-3 hours each week reading and responding to workshop stories and for the written exercises.
