The WWPH Fiction winner for 2019 is Nathan Leslie, for his story collection, HURRY UP AND RELAX. Nathan Leslie’s nine previous books of fiction include THREE MEN, ROOT AND SHOOT, SIBS, and THE TALL TALE OF TOMMY TWICE. He is also the author of a collection of poems, NIGHT SWEAT. Nathan is currently the series editor for Best Small Fictions, the founder and organizer of the Reston Reading Series in Reston, Virginia, and the publisher and editor of the new online journal Maryland Literary Review. He lives in Northern Virginia with his wife, Julie.
The 2019 Jean Feldman Poetry Prize winner is Elizabeth Knapp, for her collection, REQUIEM WITH AN AMULET IN ITS BEAK. Elizabeth Knapp’s debut collection of poems, THE SPITE HOUSE (C&R Press, 2011), won the 2010 De Novo Poetry Prize. Her other honors include the 2018 Robert H. Winner Memorial Award from the Poetry Society of America, a 2017 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Award, and the 2015 Literal Latté Poetry Award. Her poems have appeared in many journals and anthologies, including Best New Poets, Kenyon Review, The Massachusetts Review, North American Review, and Quarterly West. An associate professor of English at Hood College, she lives in Frederick, Maryland with her family.
