Revising is essential to writing. In fact, in many ways, revision is where craft happens. Inspired by the instructor’s own experience in learning how to revise with the short story writer Christine Schutt, this three hour workshop is designed for writers who have a completed short story draft ready for revision. Using a series of short exercises, this workshop will focus on the economy of language, building movement between sentences and creating satisfying endings. Using stories-in-progress, we will learn to identify the heart of the story and what it takes to make it sing. Note: Some feedback will be provided as part of the revision process but the instructor will not be doing detailed critique of stories.
