Working with childhood memories can be both intense as well as emotionally rewarding. In this asynchronous workshop, participants will dive into their most powerful memories and learn how to translate them into a polished, musical poem. In addition to engaging in exercises designed to awaken vivid memories, this workshop will also center around how to craft an ear-pleasing line of poetry and cover some of the basics of meter and form. Participants will learn not only by writing their own poems but by studying the work of poets such as Theodore Roethke, Sylvia Plath, Sharon Olds, Robert Frost, Joy Harjo, and others. No experience is necessary.
NO SET MEETING TIME: This workshop will take place over Wet Ink, which is an asynchronous creative writing platform. The instructor will post a lesson and assignment at the beginning of each week, and participants can log in and read the lessons/post assignments/comment on other classmates’ work at their convenience. Shortly before the start date, participants will receive an invite from Wet Ink to create their login info and access the class. Please check your spam if you don’t see it.
