SUMMARY:How to Develop Character
DESCRIPTION:Transport your readers into your character’s head.\nAs humans\, we experience reality through particular states of mind. The same is true of characters in fiction\, because fictional characters are written to evoke real human experiences. Elements of writing that guide readers through a sentence can also serve to guide readers through a character’s state of mind\, when the writer applies these elements deliberately. In this class\, you will learn (using specific techniques) how to tell a story as only your character in their particular state of mind could tell. \n\nIn-person class: This workshop will take place at The Writer’s Center\, 4508 Walsh St\, Bethesda MD. \n\nIn this workshop you’ll learn:\n\nCharacter interiority\nNarrative technique\nPsychological realism\n\nTime requirements\n\nSeveral short excerpts will by provided by the instructor prior to class. These should take less than an hour to read.\n\nMaterials\n\nAll reading materials will be provided.\n\nWho should take this workshop?\n\nProse writers of all levels seeking to craft compelling narration.\n\nIf you need an accommodation for this workshop\, please contact us at access@writer.org. We will attempt to fulfill all requests\, but advance notice is necessary to arrange for some accessibility services.
