Journal techniques are like tools in a writer’s toolbox.
Just as a hammer is the right choice for placing a nail in the wall, so a particular journal method can be exactly the right tool to use to advance the dialogue in a story, to help craft the end of a novel, or to create a compelling protagonist. Writing prompts are tools that inspire ideas and help queue our thoughts; they are useful when finding the thread of an idea is difficult or when we experience writer’s block. Journal writing prompts can help writers to channel their ideas into a flow of words. Among the many journaling techniques that have been espoused by journaling experts, in this interactive workshop the facilitator will demonstrate how the following six tools can inspire and spark creativity. Participants will have a chance to practice with several journaling methods to move ahead on a current work in progress, to jump start a writing idea, and/or to address their writing blocks.
