Explore the art and craft of poetry!
This workshop will offer a lecture each week, followed by workshopping participants’ poems. The class will focus on the elements of story, musicality, figuration, and most of all feeling. Open to all poets at all levels, who are curious about poetry and its craft and tools for revision.
Live video conference: This workshop will be held via our online video conferencing platform, Zoom. You can view brief tutorials on using the platform here. On the start date or the day before, participants will receive an email with login info (please check your spam if you don’t see it).

- 3-4 hours minimum
Materials
- Rilke’s Letters to a Young Poet, How to Fall in Love with Poetry by Edward Hirsch, any anthology of American/ British poetry from the 17th century to contemporary canonical poetry. I will also refer to my own books and articles and not strongly recommend or require students to read or purchase them.
Who should take this workshop?
- Anyone who has read enough poetry to want to write like a poet, anyone who feels loss more deeply than other people (what Wordsworth said), anyone who happens happens to be respondent to the world’s mysteries, and is open to going anywhere the poem takes them.
